History
The evolution of precision, the milestones of Johnson turning technology.
1992
In 1992 Günter Johnson took over the Zittau branch of VEB Schraubenwerk Elsterwerda from the Treuhand and founded the Zittau Fassondreherei. Shortly afterwards, the company was renamed Johnson Drehtechnik. The company developed steadily, new machines and employees were added.
1996
In 1996, the company moved to a larger and more modern production facility to create the conditions for further development. The former VEB site was then extensively renovated. From then on, the company grew continuously, and production was modernised with additional new machines using CNC technology. The quality assurance was equipped with modern measuring technology and the quality standards were further developed according to the needs of our customers.
2006
In 2006, the company moved to its current location, a newly built, modern production hall in the Weinau industrial estate in Zittau. This provided the ideal conditions for continuous growth and development over the next few years.
2012
In 2012, the Johnson family sold the company to the current managing director and majority owner Florian Fritz. As a result, the personnel structures were created in order to continue to grow as an industrial company. Johnson Drehtechnik invests in modern CNC single and multi-spindle machines and focuses on the development and optimisation of processes and procedures. Another focus is the training of cutting machine operators. We try to recruit 2-3 new apprentices every year and recruit them in cooperation with schools and at trade fairs.
2013
With the introduction of a new ERP system in 2013, master data management, as well as order processing and planning, can be decisively improved.
2014
In 2014, Johnson Drehtechnik sro. is founded as a partner company in the nearby Czech Republic. This enables us to offer testing and assembly activities in addition to turned parts.
2017
In 2017, our quality management system is certified according to IATF 16949 and has been continuously developed since then. Also since 2017, we have expanded our range to include the simple bending of turned parts. For this purpose, we have a semi-automatic bending machine that enables simple bending angles of up to 90°. Over the course of the last few years, we have built up expertise in the area of bending technology, including tools and the necessary additional processes, which enables us to turn and then bend a wide variety of geometries.
2021
Since 2021, we have also been offering cooperative engineering training in cooperation with the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences in addition to the apprenticeships for machining mechanic and mechatronics technician. This combines the respective apprenticeship with a degree in general mechanical engineering. In the same year, Stephan Mai is appointed as an additional managing director and the management is restructured.
2023
A document management system is introduced in 2023 to automate document checks. In cooperation with the local university, additional engineering know-how was built up in numerous student projects to improve our production and quality assurance processes with innovative technical solutions and automation.
